Critical Reflection
Module Learning
At the start of the module, I
was tasked to set 2 goals to achieve by the end of this module. In a blink of
an eye, 13 weeks have passed and it’s been a fruitful journey.
The
first goal was to refine my grammar and organize my ideas properly. In the
first few weeks of the module, I learn how to organize my thoughts through the
Paul-Elder Framework and the 7 C’s of communications. Before reading about the
framework, I always find it difficult to arrange my thoughts to whether is it
enough or if the message relayed was clear. The framework allows me to arrange
and structure my thoughts correctly as well as put them into words. This
framework has been my blueprint ever since it was introduced to me. I find it
easier to write my reports and assignments with the guide of the framework.
With this module, there are samples and rubrics which I can refer to sense how
it should be written. To refine my grammar, I started paying more attention to
every single word that I wrote to minimize grammatical errors. The feedback
that I got from my friends was also crucial as they help me to spot my errors
and ensure that my content flow smoothly.
The
second goal was to engage with the audience confidently in my presentation. The
issue I faced was that I tend to overthink and have thoughts of being judged by
the audience. Every week in class, we were broken down into a small groups of 4
and sometimes half of the class. Throughout the module, there have been
opportunities to practice and sharpen my presentation skills. Unfortunately, I
hesitate to grab those opportunities to improve my presentation skills. The
most valuable lesson in the module is to unlearn and drop all the presentation
habits I had back in my polytechnic days. It had given me a new perspective on
professional presentation. This goal of mine will not stop here and I will try
to redeem myself when the opportunity arises.
Project Learning
For
the technical report project, I learned that when I came across an idea or
suggestion, I should not hesitate to share it with my group member as we
struggled to pick our topic at the start of the project. As the project
progressed, we manage to delegate and distribute the workload evenly. Discussion
held in class was limited due to time constraints. Hence, we scheduled some
time to hold a meeting and complete our tasks. Although the team did decent on
the project presentation, there were a lot of areas that I could have worked
on. Due to a lack of practice, I tend to read off my phone which made me look
unprofessional. I appreciate my teammates’ active participation in the project
and their willingness to discuss the project. I think it is important to have
good team communication to resolve problems and complete assignments
efficiently.
There
are many key takeaways from the module which I will hold on to and bring along
with me. I am thankful for Professor Bad as he consistently gives us
constructive feedback, unlike other modules. He made the module very
interactive and enjoyable. I would also like to extend my gratitude to my group
project as well as the class for respecting each other and making the class
lively.
